High performance schools

The design team’s approach took into consideration that the operating and maintenance are the most significant expenses throughout the life of the building, which far exceed the first costs of construction.

School design

The facility design serves to improve Life Cycle costs and utilizes mechanical, plumbing and lighting technologies that provide energy savings, as well as help to create a more productive learning environment.

Heat pumps

A total of 144 geothermal wells that flow to heat pumps equipped with individual temperature and humidity controls in each classroom.   The use of individual floor mounted heat pump closets in each classroom provides quieter operation than traditional HVAC systems and also permits non-intrusive access for maintenance.

Lighting

Lighting fixtures throughout the building provide a combination of direct and indirect light. Additionally, increased window size allows natural light to flow into the school, while the reflectivity off of walls, ceilings and floors helps to maximize the daylighting to promote a better learning environment.
