IALD - This appellation is the essential indicator of a professional independent lighting designer. Professional membership in the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) is limited to experienced designers. IALD members abide by rules of ethics, called Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct.

  LC - Lighting Certified (LC) is a professional credential indicating that the candidate has met specific basic standards and has a broad knowledge base in lighting. It is not limited to lighting designers, but does demonstrate to the public that the individual can apply fundamental lighting principals or techniques. The National Counsel for Qualification of Lighting Professionals (NCQLP) administers a certification examination for this certification.
