From the Burlington County Times

The Burlington County Board of Freeholders plans to build a $10 million power-generating plant that will convert methane gas produced by the county landfill into electricity. The plant will be built at the landfill, and it will produce enough power to run all landfill operations and some extra electricity that could be sold to utility companies for profit.

The board predicts the operation will make $15 million over the next 15 years by selling excess electricity and eliminating the landfills annual electric bill, $572,000 in the year 2002. The plant could open as early as September 2003.

The Board of freeholders awarded the contract to Concord Engineering Group of Voorhees. The Firm will handle the design and construction management of the plant. The firm was selected for the consulting contract because of its experience in the field of reusable energy. Thomas Iannuzzi, Concord's director of power services has worked on six other similar installations.
